Dog Days of Spring

Last weekend was pretty busy. We spent a fair amount of time looking for baby furniture, which is, um, fun. . . and didn't find anything. We will soon though I have a feeling. We also spent time looking at baby clothes which isn't as bad. Yes, I am a guy and just said that spending time in baby clothes stores in the pink section isn't bad. Its a dad thing I guess and after spending time looking at endless dressers and gliders, it was a welcome sight.

Sunday we finally got to go to church! Yes, Lela's been working so much we haven't gotten to go much in the last month so it was a nice break to get to go, always starts the week off right. Sunday afternoon we took Cooper for his very first trip to the dog park and met up with Lindsay and Ryan who have 2 dogs. Lindsay is what one might call very pregnant. yes, there are varying levels of pregnancy, Lela asks me if she is somehow only partly pregnant, and I think she is. We aren't talking pass fail here people, its like public accounting where things are measured in busy seasons. 1-3 busy seasons is only sort of bitter and surly, whereas you grow increasingly bitter and grumpy after that. Partners tend to be the most bitter and surly even if they don't want to admit it, so there are levels. Maybe its just me though. . .
Anyway, Lindsay seems to be doing well at 38 weeks. Cooper and their dogs, Lynnie and Ehlers seemed to have a grand time (sorry Osterhauses if I botched the spelling!).

For those of you who don't have dogs, its sort of like if you were a dog and got high on ecstasy or meth or some other illegal drug, you would envision this place in one of your delusions. There are a ton of other dogs, a million fetch toys, water to fetch in and free open range. Cooper excelled in . . .effort for sure. Cooper was sort of that kid who makes a lot of splash but doesn't go so quickly. He had his front paws out of the water so he splashed a lot without a lot of speed, but he'll figure it out. He enjoyed it though, and hopefully as we get him there more often, he graduates from the 3rd grade bball team where we play everyone and its all about "having fun" (I was always the little boy who's definition of fun was winning, but whatever), and becomes a jr high beat em by 40 type swimmer. Yes, I am likely going to have to fight myself when Mila is in stuff to not be that dad who is a little too intense as its probably clear how I felt about the aforementioned 3rd grade bball team. We also learned there are many dogs named Cooper out there as we met at least 2 at the dog park. So I guess we don't get an A for originality, but he's definitely a Cooper. Anyway, it was great fun and we have a pic of the prego ladies as well as some of myself with the wet rat formerly known as Cooper.

Lela's been doing well. We had sonogram #2 today and everything was well. the sonographer even gave us some free 3d pics, so that was great. I think Mila looks like Lela, Lela doesn't agree, but as I was on the gender, I am right on this. We'll post pics when lela gets them scanned. I have also attached a profile pic of Lela, she's getting more pregnant. You will note this was on Saturday after she kicked my butt on a run. Yes, she's still faster, one of these days on a long run I will catch her!

My first week with Sprint was good. I have officially become a homer, I am preaching to everyone I can about the Palm Pre, which is going to be greater than the Iphone and about how great the Now network is. But work itself has been good so far, so hopefully it stays in that track. Oh and the frostbite has healed, no amputation needed, so that's also good. I put a few mini videos of the Coopster below just to test it out and see how it works.

Registering

First of all Happy Belated Mom's day to all the mom's out there. Mom's make the world go round, the rest of us are just along for the ride.

Last weekend we finally got to Baby's R Us to register. WOW. We have read so many reviews and seen so many things its hard to choose what to go with! It actually wasn't as bad as we thought it might be. The internet helps as we can just earmark things and then go update from the comfort of our home. We also luckily ate before, so hunger didn't factor in. There's a lot though. Its not like wedding registry where you just get things you think look cool mostly, there is safety and style and durability and 20 other factors. Its funny, after doing all the leg work and looking up strollers and stuff like that and then trying them out, you notice how many people have those items. I think we are going with the Chicco stroller/car seat and I can't count the number of those I now saw over the weekend. Its sort of like since accepting with Sprint I have noticed that Jack Bauer rocks a sprint phone (that's a reference to ), Claire and the cast on Heroes rock Sprint phones. If he new how to use one, Tim Riggins (Friday Night Lights) would likely rock a Sprint phone and I have begun to notice which people around me use it. Anyways, I digress, but yeah, if you have a stroller, I now know a lot more about it:)

Lela's still keeping on. She's been busy at work, so Cooper and I haven't seen her much. She's still faster than me on the road runningwise, so that keeps her happy. That reminds me, if you see me gimping around keep your comments to yourself. I had arch problems so I was on a mission to get my feet back into shape and had started icing diligently. Of course we got a new ice pack which was colder than the previous one and didn't put something on my skin because I thought it couldn't hurt. Of course, now I have frostbite. yes, its May and I have frostbite on my feet, its basically just like a first degree burn and hurts to walk on, so I am trying to apply stuff to help, but basically I just look like a 70 yr old man as I limp around.

Started the new job yesterday. A lot of info to absorb! Hopefully things start to click soon, right now I just try to get through all of my admin stuff along with trying to get a clue. I didn't have email or even a phone over the weekend which was good in some ways, but its one of those things where you just feel naked without it after its become integrated into your life!

No pics this time, we'll get one of the belly up soon.

Time to get outta here!

Well today was my last real day with D&T (tomorrow is turn in my computer and do nothing worth a crap day). Its going to be weird to start something new next week since its been 5.5 yrs coming, that whole exciting/scary deal. I have more of that coming approximately 3 months from today with the whole arrival of our new family member. I have to turn in my phone tomorrow, and will then come home. Its going to be weird to not have a computer or phone all day, probably refreshing!

Anyway, nothing new on the home front other than that, just thought I'd throw that out there as my last blog with my D&T computer.

Busy week

We have been pretty busy last 9 days for the Huebner clan. First thing last Saturday Lela and I built a garden in our backyard. Its not too complicated looking, but its harder to put together than you'd think! Building it is one thing for me, the accountant. Then after its built it takes forever to fill with dirt. I carried a ton of dirt. Yep as I have reminded Lela at nauseum (I don't think that's how you spell it, but you get the picture) I carried 50 different 40 lb begs of dirt to fill this box, which for those of you doing the math at home, is a ton. Anyway we built various herbs and veggies, so it'll be fun to see them grow for the summer. Hopefully they grow that is! Everything else has been growing like crazy, ie the grass. The aforementioned Dad's Against Dating (DAD) will likely have to start a subcommittee called FETOG, or Fathers for the Ethical Treatment Of Grass. I mean, is anybody else tired of mowing twice a week? We left this weekend (see below) and I was embarrassed as I had to quick mow it and it looked terrible. So when we got home mowed again on Sunday. We members of the FETOG subcommittee need to find a way to have green grass that we mow once every 2 weeks. I won't be complaining in August when our grass matches our house (which is brown), but a happy medium would be good! Cooper has been going green lately, as in his paws make him look like he's morphing into the Incredible Hulk... except for the fact that he's a dog and can't tear out of his shirt and jeans and its just his paws.
Then during the week, I stayed up late one night putting together this lovely crib. Step 2 for the baby room is complete! After the painting and repainting that was step 1 and then the patience it takes to put together the crib, I am rethinking this whole dad thing:)
This weekend we headed up to Vinton, IA for our niece Julia and nephew Jacoby's bday party. They were born close enough together as far as date goes that my sister and brother in law throw a joint party, but for now my 3 yr old niece is primarily focused on reminding us of her bday and her 1 yr old brothers' is somewhere in the afterthoughts. It was a good time, the weather was phenomenal and it was fun to hang out with family that was there for the extravaganza. We took a few pictures of us with our niece and nephew in front of the star in front of their house. I am about 90% sure that my sister has more of these stars in various places throughout the house than anybody in the US and this is the largest, so its a perfect picture opp! Anyway, great party put on by my sis (Joe was in there somewhere too, but like me is likely not the brains behind most of the operations) and it was good to get up there for it this year.
One of my ex coworkers Josh watched cooper over the weekend and it was weird to be away from him as he has truly become an integral part of our day to day lives, but all appears to be well and hopefully he didn't terrorize Josh too much.
